A water parade and the first fantasy masks have opened the annual Venice Carnival. A wonderful and fanciful water parade opened the Carnival for 2016 with colourful boat procession in St. Mark's Basin before entering the Grand Canal from Punta della Dogana and in to Rio di Cannaregio. A pianist suspended above the canal, dancers, huge balloons, costumes and hundreds of gondolas. What a sight!
